The West End of London remains the ultimate UK office location, but it is also the most expensive, despite the huge drop in rental values in the aftermath of the 2008 credit crunch. The highest rents are achieved in Mayfair and St James's, although The West End, as a district, also includes Marylebone, Covent Garden, Noho / Fitzrovia, Soho and Westminster.
If a company can say that their offices are n the West End, it automatically gives them credibility and it is true to say that companies rarely take offices in The West End unless they have good reason to do so due to the high occupational costs in some areas. Companies wanting a West End address but not wanting to pay through the nose for them often move to offices on the fringes of Mayfair and St James's, where rents are more modest and comparable with The City.
It is not only the rental values that are high in The West End, but it is also the most expensive district in London for Business Rates. The 2010 re-valuation has seen the business rates liability for some prime West End office occupiers double. The West End, as an office location attracts a huge diverse mix of uk and international companies, both small and large. The business pace of life ranges from formal and hectic in Mayfair to relaxed and informal in the media areas of Soho and Noho / Fitzrovia.
