Sandwiched between Mayfair to the west and Covent Garden to the east, Soho is the centre of the world for London's media companies, including the many film, television and post production companies that occupy the office buildings around Soho Square and down Dean Street.

Once known for being London's sleazy red light district, the area cleaned up its act in the early 1980s, thanks to a change in governance at Westminster Council, which resulted in climbing office rental values. Today, the trendy district thrives as an office location. Old Compton Street is popular with London's affluent gay community, Karl Marx wrote his 'Letters to Engel' whilst hiding from his landlord in Dean Street, there is the village atmosphere of Berwick Street Market, and the area exudes informality and a cool, corporate 'dress down' compared with the suited and booted executives of neighbouring Mayfair.

There is a vibrant party culture in Soho, which also includes London's Chinatown district (centred around Gerrard Street) and the area is known for its night clubs, theatres, bars, restaurants and 24-hour lifestyle.

With relatively few large office buildings, rents are cheaper than Mayfair to the west and major occupiers here include National Magazines and Saatchi and Saatchi.
