Undisputedly the financial centre of Europe, The City of London was the original site of London's Roman settlement and is referred to as 'The Square Mile.' Unsurprisingly, office occupiers largely comprise banks, funds, insurance and finance sector companies.

Attracting some 400,000 commuters every day, the area has numerous sky scrapers full of companies focussing on money and profit and is home to The Bank of England, The London Stock Exchange, Lloyds of London as well as hundreds of banks, commodity traders, futures traders and foreign exchanges. As a world financial centre, The City ranks alongside other powerful financial centres including New York and Tokyo.

Communications are excellent, with several mainline stations and numerous underground lines passing through this central district.

City office space comes in all shapes and sizes, with plenty of cheaper stock for the smaller companies that might typically be service providers to the core financial occupiers of the area.

Office rents in The City are some 15% to 20% lower than in Mayfair or St James's making it more expensive than the neighbouring Canary Wharf / Docklands area.

The City is steeped in history with snippets everywhere for the observant, such as the remains of London's original fortifications, now appropriately called London Wall.
