From an office occupier's point of view, the area was a wasteland until 20 years ago, when it became one of Britain's first Enterprise Zones, attracting huge institutional investment.

The area is now an internationally recognised business district in its own right, albeit an outpost of The City.

Largely occupied by financial companies benefiting from the area as a cheaper and more modern alternative to the overcrowded City of London, Canary Wharf Tower is the tallest building in the UK and dominates the London skyline.

An overland railway, The Docklands Light Railway, crucially connects the area to The City and the Jubilee Line provides access for Canary Wharf office space occupiers to the West End. There is also an Airport!

Canary Wharf office occupiers include Readers Digest, JP Morgan, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, The Telegraph and Credit Suisse.

Office rents in Canary Wharf / Docklands are cheaper than in The City for generally better quality office space but communications are not as extensive as in The City, except of course for the London City Airport and Docklands Light Railway.
